MANILA, Philippines – Justin Brownlee’s likely absence in Game 4 looms over Barangay Ginebra as it tries to pull level with TNT in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City on Friday, March 21.
The three-time Best Import is “doubtful” for Game 4 after he suffered a dislocated right thumb in the Gin Kings’ 87-85 loss in Game 3 on Wednesday, March 19.
Brownlee’s exit in Game 3 proved to be a big difference as the Tropang Giga seized a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven duel, and the possibility of him missing more action will shape the series.
TNT head coach Chot Reyes, though, said Ginebra remains a threat even sans its resident import.
“Without Justin, somebody else is going to step up. They’re going to rely on their defense, their ability to defend us, to generate stops for themselves,” said Reyes.
“This is not over by any means. We have to make sure we’re ready.”
Import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is expected to show the way for the Tropang Giga anew after averaging 26.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in the first three games.
TNT is also relying on Game 3 hero Rey Nambatac, Calvin Oftana, and Roger Pogoy to continue their steady play.
Meanwhile, the Gin Kings need more from the likes of Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, Troy Rosario, RJ Abarrientos, and Jamie Malonzo as they shoot for a 2-2 tie.
