CEBU, Philippines – Cheerful sounds and colorful powder fill the air of Cebu City as the Sinulog Festival celebration officially begins on Sunday, January 19.
Thousands of tourists and devotees crowd the streets of the Queen City of the South as the grand celebration finally makes its return to its traditional venue at the Cebu City Sports Center after two years of being held at the South Road Properties.
This year, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said that the local government is expecting to welcome around 3 million people to join the festivities.
The Sinulog Grand Parade and Ritual Dance Showdown, the highlight of the festival that most Cebuanos are looking forward to, is said to be showcasing talents from 42 contingents that arrived in Cebu from different parts of the country.
These performers and their own festival queens will be showing off their interpretations of the Sinulog ritual dance prayer and various festivals belonging to their hometowns.
