MANILA, Philippines – Officials of the National Task Force-West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) called for a press conference on Tuesday, January 14, more than a week since the China Coast Guard (CCG) continued sending ships, including the infamous “monster ship,” in waters off the coast of Zambales.
China claims most of the South China Sea, including areas that are within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. The Philippine Coast Guard, in a statement on Monday, said it “recognizes the critical importance of its role, not only in physically monitoring the Chinese Coast Guard vessel but also in preventing any attempts by China to normalize its illegal deployment of maritime forces and disrupt the status quo.”
