[In the Public Square] Talk Duterte to me: Digong in the Senate

MANILA, Philippines – The former president, Rodrigo Duterte, went to the Senate on October 28 to testify at the inquiry into his scandalous war on drugs — and all hell broke loose. Based on the number of times Duterte invoked “impiyerno (hell),” we might be forgiven for thinking that it was the plan all along.

How do we make sense of what happened at the Senate? Will it bring those responsible for the so-called war closer to accountability? And what happens to public discourse when an influential politician talks dirty, or Duterte?

In this episode of In The Public Square, Rappler columnist and editorial consultant John Nery is joined by stalwarts in the field of human rights: human rights lawyer and Free Legal Assistance Group chair Chel Diokno, lawyer and Bayan Muna party-list chair Neri Colmenares, and journalist and Human Rights Watch senior researcher Carlos “Caloy” Conde.

Watch the episode on Wednesday, October 30, at 8 pm. – Rappler.com
